Dwyane Wade Misses A Third Straight Game

Dwyane Wade missed his third straight game Saturday night. He is still sidelined by a bruised left foot. Wade participated in the pregame shootaround but was not cleared to play by the team’s trainer. When asked about it, Dwyane Wade said “I want to play. It’s just about being smart. I mean, I wanted to play a couple of nights ago, just couldn’t do it. This is making steps. I’m getting better. I’m making progress, that’s all I can ask for, is to continue to make progress.” The Heat didn’t really need him as they rolled over the New Jersey Nets, 101-90. But despite their success without Dwyane Wade, there are two big questions. How long they can continue without him and how serious is this injury? Dwyane Wade missed his second straight game Thursday night. Wade has been nursing a bruised left foot since he injured it against the Charlotte Bobcats on December 28th. Wade’s absence didn’t hurt the Heat on Wednesday. They crushed the Indiana Pacers, 118-83. But it may have hurt them Thursday night. It was obvious that they missed Dwyane Wade’s 18.8 points per game as they needed 3 overtime periods to beat the Atlanta Hawks, 116 – 109. The win avenged the Heat’s only loss this season. Wade’s injury is not considered serious, but the Heat decided to give him as much rest now as they can. In an ordinary season, this wouldn’t be much of an issue. But things are different in this lockout shortened season. Any team looking to make a run at an NBA title needs early wins to gain momentum. Losing Dwyane Wade for any stretch of time could be a big blow to this team’s championship hopes. This season, Erik Spoelstra has instituted a new offense. Spoelstra refers to it as “pace and space”, but it looks more like “run and gun”. It is the complete opposite of last year’s almost turtle like offense. “Pace and space”
