Grizzlies end Heat’s home win streak 97-82

April 7, 2012
By

When the Memphis Grizzlies looked at the season schedule and saw just one game against the Miami Heat, they probably figured that they would have only a slight chance of winning. History was against them. They had a losing record against the Heat and had lost 10 games in Miami. No one could imagine that they would do a lot better than most would expect. The Grizzlies went into Miami against a team riding a 17 game home win streak and they did the unexpected. They won, 97 – 82. The Heat were out of this game from the opening tip. They never led in this game and that was amazing considering that the Heat’s “Big Three” all scored double digits. LeBron James led the Heat with 21 points and Chris Bosh added 19 points. Dwyane Wade contributed 20 points. When the Heat get that kind of scoring, they rarely lose. But on this night, that scoring was not enough. The Grizzlies, led by Rudy Gay’s 17 points, had seven players score in double digits. The Grizzlies were just too much for the Heat. The Heat will have a day to think about this loss before they take on the

Heat make statement in win against Thunder 98-93

In a game that had been billed as a potential NBA Finals preview, the Miami Heat showed that they are still in the championship conversation. The Heat avenged last month’s blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder with a 98 – 93 win. With the win, the Heat picked up their 17th straight win at home. Miami knew that they would need a big effort from their “Big Three” and they got it. LeBron James led all scorers with 34 points and Chris Bosh added 12 points. Dwyane Wade returned to the lineup after missing last night’s game and contributed 19 points. As expected, the Thunder’s Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook had big games. Durant had 30 points and Westbrook had 28 points. The Heat needed this win to show the rest of the league that they could compete with one of the West’s best teams. But this win was not easy. The Heat had to fight hard the whole game. They came back from an 11 point deficit to go in to the half up by 1. That led to a strong third quarter that they would need to win this game. The Heat have tomorrow off before their

Heat continue dominance against Sixers with win 99-93

April 4, 2012

The Miami Heat were looking to sweep the Philadelphia 76ers this season and get back to the winning side of the scoreboard after Sunday’s brutal loss to the Celtics. They accomplished their goal of winning 99 – 93 and got their 11th straight win against the Sixers. The Heat were led by LeBron James with his game and season high 41 points. Chris Bosh added 17 points and Mario Chalmers contributed 19 points. The Sixers were led by Evan Turner’s 26 points. The Sixers kept the game close and even went in to the locker room at the half with the lead. That is usually a successful strategy against the Heat, but the Sixers just couldn’t keep up. And they had a slight advantage considering that the Heat were missing Dwyane Wade. Even though he participated in Tuesday morning’s shootaround, Dwyane Wade didn’t play Tuesday night. He was listed as having a bruised left knee. The Heat gave very few details on the injury and many were left wondering if it was really an injury at all. Wade had a bad game against the Celtics and the Heat could have just been resting him for Wednesday’s game against Oklahoma City.

Celtics hand Heat a beating in Boston 91-72

April 1, 2012
By

The Miami Heat had no answer at all for the Boston Celtics Sunday afternoon. It was clear that the rout was on from the opening tip as the Celtics beat the Heat by 19 points, 91 – 72. It was the biggest loss of the season for the Heat. It was so bad that the Heat were outscored 31-12 in the third quarter alone. In a battle of “Big Threes”, the Heat trio of Bosh, Wade and James was no match for the Celtics trio of Garnett, Pierce and Rondo. Bosh had a horrible day, putting up only 4 points on a 2 of 11 shooting day. LeBron James led the Heat with 23 points and Dwyane Wade added 15 points. By contrast, the Celtics had all five starters in double digits even though Ray Allen was out with a sore ankle. Paul Pierce had 23 points and Kevin Garnett added 10 points, but Rajon Rondo was the star of the day. Rondo put his fifth triple-double of the season on the stat sheet with 16 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds. The Heat open up a five game home stand on Tuesday and that’s a good thing considering their

April 1, 2012
By

The road hasn’t been too good for the Miami Heat this season, but it didn’t look that way Friday night in Toronto. The Heat extended their winning streak to two games with their win over the Toronto Raptors, 113 – 101. The Heat got a big effort from their “Big Three”. LeBron James had 26 points and Chris Bosh had 30 points. Dwyane Wade also added 30 points. The Raptors were out of this game from the start. Miami opened up with a 10 – 0 run and never let up. They were up by 8 at the end of the first half and the Heat usually win games that they lead at the half. The loss was the seventh straight for the Raptors against the Heat and their sixth loss in eight games. The Heat are off until Sunday afternoon when they meet the Boston Celtics in Boston. The Celtics are always a tough opponent and this game is not going to be easy for the Heat. Last season the Celtics owned the Heat, winning 3 of the 4 games. The first game of the series this season went to the Heat, but that game was in Miami. Historically

Heat blow out the Mavericks

March 30, 2012
By

The Miami Heat knew that they would need a huge effort to get past the Dallas Mavericks and they got it on Thursday night. The Mavericks could only rely on Dirk Nowitzki and his 25 points and it wasn’t enough stop the Heat from winning 106 – 85. The win extended their home win streak to 15 games and picked up their second win against the defending NBA champions this season. The Heat also rebounded by ending their two game losing streak. Nowitzki was the only Maverick in double digits and he was the game’s leading scorer. But as Dirk faded in the second half, he got virtually no help at all from the rest of the Mavericks. Meanwhile, the Heat had 4 of their 5 starters in double digits. LeBron James and Chris Bosh each had 19 points and Dwyane Wade contributed 16 points. The Heat ended their two game skid with this win at home. Home has been great for the Heat. They are now 21 and 2 at home. The road has been a continuous struggle for this team. The Heat’s next two games are on the road. They face the Toronto Raptors Friday night and the

Heat drop another one on the road

March 27, 2012

The Miami Heat’s woes on the road continued Monday night in Indianapolis against the Indiana Pacers. They lost by double digits for the second straight game 105 – 90. And for the second straight game, the Heat were down going into the locker room at the half. This time it was only three points but it demonstrated that they still have trouble when they don’t lead at the half. The first half was great for LeBron James. He had 16 points in the first half but only managed to add another 8 points in the second half. Chris Bosh scored 14 points and Dwyane Wade added 24 points. The 62 points from the “Big Three” was not enough to get past the Pacers. Indiana had all five starters in double digits and they were led by Danny Granger’s 25 points. The Heat have a few days off before they host the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. The Heat won the season opener on Christmas Day against the Mavericks and they are hoping to pick up another win. A win would be good for the Heat considering the way that they have been playing lately. A team looking to win a championship

Heat stumble against the Thunder

March 26, 2012
By

In their first meeting of the season, the Miami Heat seemed to have no answer for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder were the victors on this night by a score of 103 – 87. The Heat were led by Dwyane Wade and his 22 points. Wade shot 6 for 10 from the field, 3 of 4 from beyond the arc and was a perfect 7 for 7 at the free throw line. Dwyane Wade is continuing to shoot the lights out this season and is having a career year in completion percentage from the field. The remainder of the “Big Three” accounted for an additional 35 points. LeBron James had 17 points and Chris Bosh added 18 points. But it wasn’t enough to combat potential league MVP Kevin Durant. Durant had a game high 28 points. He was helped by Russell Westbrook’s 13 points, Kendrick Perkins’ 16 points and Serge Ibaka’s 19 points. It was numbers like those that allowed the Thunder to go into the locker room at the half with an 11 point lead. The Heat have had trouble this season coming from behind at the half, and tonight was no different. It also didn’t help that

For the Heat, LeBron James had 17 points and 10 assists and Chris Bosh added 15 points. Dwyane Wade led all scorers with 24 points. The Heat were up by 23 points at the half and extended that lead to 26 points before the Pistons decided to fight back. The lead was cut to 8 before the Heat went on a 10-2 run to end all hopes of a Piston comeback. The Heat’s next game is Sunday against Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. This will be the first of two games this season between the two teams. Historically the Heat have not done well against the Thunder and they have a losing record against them. The road has not been too kind to the Heat either. They are giving up more points on the road than they do at home and they have lost 4 of

March 21, 2012
By

The Phoenix Suns fought mightily to extend their win streak to five games but they fell just short. The Miami Heat were the winner on this night, 99 – 95. With the win, the Heat extended their home win streak to 14 games. A major factor in the win was a fourth quarter surge by the Heat where they went on a 17 – 0 run. The Heat scoring charge is usually paced by LeBron James or Dwyane Wade, but this time Chris Bosh led the team in scoring. In fact, Bosh led all scorers with 29 points on an impressive 12 for 16 shooting night. Bosh was even 5 of 6 from the free throw line. He nearly doubled his 18 points per game average. LeBron James had 20 points and Dwyane Wade added 19 points. The Heat head back on the road for a three game road trip. They will play 3 games in 4 nights against the Detroit Pistons, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers.
